Since 1985
Maintaining Cemeteries in
Cumberland County

Our History
The WB-Wells Foundation was founded and started its work in 1985.Shortly thereafter, in 1988, we partnered with the Amherst Township Historical Society (the previous name of the owner and operator of the Cumberland County Museum), to visit and collect all headstone data from cemeteries.
This ongoing project involved taking pictures of all gravestones, devising cemetery “plans”, recording the information on the stones, and any symbols, or designs; as it was clear that stones do deteriorate, and it was seen as important to preserve this information. While we strive to preserve the headstones themselves, we know they will not last, or be readable forever.
This information was first kept in “hard-copy”, then in 2003, put into a database, which has now become outmoded. The information now available on this site has been, and will be updated periodically, using a data capture form utilizing staff funded by the Foundation.
